Lavender...Take Me Away!

This week has been crazy and I can't shake the feeling that everyday is a Monday.  It's just been one of "those" weeks.  With the shop's Harvest Gathering looming,  I have a million things running through my head and feeling like I just can't get it all done.  If I could I'd just sink into a nice warm bath and soak the day away...
I found this lovely smelling Lavender, Chamomile, and Rose Bath Tea and it smells divine.
And it claims to be calming....I wonder if it's strong enough to calm this crazy lady down...

Rosette, Ruffles, and Brooches...Oh My!

This post is long overdue but life has been nuts as we get the shop ready for our Harvest Gathering this weekend.  My journey to these pillows started with a late night browse through Etsy.... one of my favorite places to get lost.  I came across these beautiful pillows from Twig and knew I had to get my hands on them.  So I contacted Jana and was pleasantly surprised to find out that not only could she get these beauties to me super fast but she would also make Rosette Brooches!

The possibilities are endless with brooches...add them to your jacket, your bags, your pillows or top a gift with them and share these lovelies with your friends.  I just can't say enough about how in love I am with these pillows and pins.

There beauty speaks for themselves.  I'd keep them all if I could...

But since I can't, they will be making their debut at Simply Bungalow this Saturday and I'm betting they won't last long!

A Gold Mine of Treasures!

We've been blessed to meet some wonderful people during our new adventures as shopkeepers.  We're learning as we go along and one lesson I have learned is to go with your gut and to not brush off opportunities no matter how they present themselves.  At a recent show at Sweet Annie's in Roca, NE we were enjoying the wonderful displays and chatting with the vendors and it occurred to us how much everyone wanted to support us and help us "learn the ropes of the junking biz" around here.  And for this we are so grateful...We are all ears when successful junkers want to share their knowledge and we are even more excited when they want to share their finds.  We had a blast out at a new friends barn and managed get drag some of it back to the shop.  Here are a few pictures but there are loads more to come.
Butter Yellow and so Gorgeous!
Love this open shelving....More room for Treasures

Autumn Is Here!

Well it's supposed to be here but you'd never know from the heat lately.  I'm chopping at the bit to get out my sweaters and boots but the weather isn't cooperating.  So I guess I'll just have to decorate and try to will the weather to cool...
So out comes the dried Hydrangeas...
And then add some gourds...
And some hedge apples to keep the bugs away...
And this weekend I'm off to the apple orchard to pick some apples.  Can't wait it's one of my favorite Fall activities!

Lemon Lavender Shortbread

I have a new addiction.  It's an unexpected thing coming from a chocolate lover like myself.  I've recently discovered Lemon Lavender Shortbread from a wonderful new bakery in town.  Linda at Butterfly Bakery makes the most amazing creations.

They are a perfect combination of lemon and lavender in a crisp light shortbread.  I've never had anything like it and I just can't stop raving about it.
I am so envious of bakers who can create such marvelously yummy creations.  Since I don't have professional baker on my list of talents I guess I'll have to just be a taste tester!

Bittersweet...

Bittersweet, Bittersweet, Bittersweet...it's the word I've heard constantly as the Autumn months approached.  And I have to be honest, I had no idea what it was.  I'm newly replanted here in the Midwest and sometimes I feel like I'm a tourist in a new land.  I've lived all over the country and in several other countries, growing up as an Army Brat, and during all those moves I've never been in an area where Bittersweet is so talked about.  So, of course, I had to see this amazing decor for myself.  And I have to say it's as beautiful as everyone has talked about.
I'm a lover of the color orange and adore decorating with anything natural, so this is right up my alley.  I put it all over the store and it just makes the whole place look like it's dressed up for Autumn.
Now I just have an itch to go out and scout some for myself.  But of course I have no idea where these coveted vines grow.  I'm determined so I'm heading out to the "country" and hopefully one of my future posts will be full of my adventures.  If you have any hints on Bittersweet hunting send them my way, I can use all the help I can get.

Vintage Inspirations

Once again Leigh at Vintage Inspirations has put together a wonderful barn sale.
Twice a year Leigh fills her barn with so many unique finds.  She has a great eye and her displays are so fun to see.  It's never a disappointment.
She's such a gracious hostess that I find myself pulling up a stool at the counter and losing track of time  chatting with her.  If you have some time head out to her acreage.  Her sale is going on Friday, September 10th from 10am-4pm and Saturday, September 11th from 10am-2pm at 2080 County Road R in Malmo.   It's a beautiful drive and well worth the trip.

...For the Birds

Some days are just for the birds!  Today was a trying day to say the least.  As a new business owner I feel like I'm bound to learn a lesson each day and some days are easier to handle then others.  Today was one of the tougher lessons.  How do you keep everyone happy?
I know the sensible answer is you can't, but I'm always trying.  I appreciate all the help others offer but I feel strongly about keeping my shop mine, I like to rule my roost.  It's what makes me proud.  It's what keeps me going and putting in the long hours.
So it's a constant balancing act.  To accept help when needed and to not let others suggestions control my dream.  Some days go so smoothly and others are just "for the birds."  I'm ready to close the door and put this day behind me.
