The Gears are Turning...

With the New Year just around the corner it's only natural that the gears are turning in my head.  Where is the shop heading in 2011.

What's next?!

SO many ideas running through my head!

The last couple of days have been a nice reprieve with family but as the week comes to an end I am finding that I can't turn off the millions of thoughts invading my brain.

And as we head into the New Year,  I am excited to see what is in store for me.  I'm "geared" up and ready for the adventure.

I hope you have a Happy New Years...see you in 2011!

Merry Christmas

Well we made it through our first official Christmas season as shopkeepers.  And I have to say it was amazing.  We are so thankful for all the wonderful customers and supporters who have helped us get this dream off the ground.  Everyday brought a new connection, a shared laugh, or a wonderful memory that we were lucky enough to hear.  The long hours, missed meals, and crazy chaos was all worth it.  Now it's time to take a break...bake some cookies, make some snow angels and treasure this time with our family.  Hope you all have an amazing Christmas full of magical moments shared with the ones you love!

Merry Christmas!

The Hostess with the Mostest...

I'm a vintage fabric junky!

There I admit it and I feel so much better.

But seriously, I love to see vintage fabrics brought back to life.  And recently I enlisted a friend and amazingly creative seamstress to make wine and gift bags out of vintage tablecloths, napkins and other such linens.

These are perfect for a Hostess Gift...

Full of Vintage Charm

 and Simply Lovely!

Wouldn't the wine taste so much better if it was given in one of these?

Sprucing Up!

While getting ready to decorate the shop for the season we had a million ideas.  But so many of them came with a laundry list of "needs" and "have to finds".  So lacking the energy to brave the crowds we decided to just dress up what we already have.

Tis the Season for Giving

At this time of year it seems like giving is on everyone's mind.  The lists are compiled.  The bank accounts are drained and somewhere along the way we lose sight of the meaning of the season.  We often have to stop and remind ourselves to keep things in perspective.  So when Beth Imig walked into the shop we made a choice to listen.  To take a few moments out of our hair pulling crazy shopkeepers life during this time of year to hear what she had to say.  And we am so happy we did.  Beth is a retired Lincoln Public School Teacher who is a wool hooker.  She created this amazing 100% Wool, Original Design, Hand Hooked Rug.

Her wish this season is to donated 100% of the proceeds of the sale of this $225.00 rug to the Lincoln Public School Backpack Program.  This is an amazing program that sends food filled backpacks home with students in need every Friday.  This is truly a gift that gives and gives!  We are so proud to be apart of helping Beth give back to those in need.  This is the true spirit of the season.  Come by the shop and check out this amazing piece of art.  Feel free to email any questions or are interested in purchasing it!

Christmas Card Window

To say it's been a challenge learning to juggle family, shop ownership, mom duties and all the other hats I've been wearing lately is to put it lightly.  So, as Christmas sneaks up on us I am feeling overwhelmed.

The last couple of weeks have been all about getting the shop decorated for the holidays and as my sweet son so tactfully reminded me..."it is December, Mom and it would be nice to see a tree in the house soon".

So my goals for this weekend included...shopping for a tree,  decorating the tree,  and trying to cozy up the place by throwing some holiday decor at it!

This is the first Christmas in this house so I found myself stumped a few time while trying to get things decorated.  I love to display Christmas cards so I came up with the perfect display piece.

I love this large window.  It's chippy, white and perfect!

Added some Snowflakes...

Added a little Merry...

Christmas!

And ta-da!  A perfect place to display some Christmas Cheer.

Oh and I also managed to get the tree up and decorated!

Jill Ruth & Co.

Not long after we opened the shop we'd heard lots of lovely compliments about Jill and her wonderful designs.  And as life happens, time went by and we hadn't had the opportunity to get in touch with her about getting some of her goodies in the shop, until last week.

Jill invited us out to her farmhouse.  It was amazing to see all of her designs.  I hadn't realized I'd been following her blog for a while until I saw her deconstructed tree in her front hall. I've been drooling over Jill's "Junk"le  Bells posts and her one of a kind ornaments for a while now.  And I have to say they were just as beautiful in person as they were on her blog!  I could've oogled her tree for hours but there were too many other things to see!

These trees are adorable!  Made from feedsacks, burlap, vintage spools and jewelry...

And I love this one too!  My picture doesn't do this justice...the detail is lovely!

These tassel ornaments are perfect on a tree or to top a package...

Sweet mini banner adorned with vintage buttons.

Garland made with vintage Christmas bulbs.

Pocket pillows and key garland.

And as if Jill couldn't get any more creative she also is an amazing photographer.  So I had to put together a little vignette of some of her goodies and the cherry on top as or in this case the rosette on top of the tree...

Was getting to see the amazing room full of inspiration where Jill creates.  There was so much to see,  with every scan of the room I saw something drool worthy.  And silly me...I forgot my camera so I have no pictures to share but she has a post on her blog so check it out at Jill Ruth & Co.

We had such a lovely day visiting with Jill.  As we left I couldn't help but be inspired by her creativity.

Cottage in the Sun

I have a love of vintage ceiling tile.  It's one of my many obsessions, so when I was scouring Etsy for some artisans that made unusual ornaments I was thrilled to find Annette at Cottage In The Sun.
She makes the most amazing Christmas ornaments out of vintage ceiling tile.

I came across these perfectly wonderful trees and feel in love and even better they come in two sizes!  Each one is unique and full of wonderful detail.

And then there were the stars.  The chippier the better and I love this rich red.

I can't say enough wonderful things about these.  And Annette was so lovely to work with.  I just love that all of these are so perfectly one of a kind.
