Go Red for Women!

Cardiovascular disease claims the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year...

WOW!  That's a BIG number...

One of our lovely customers shared this bit of information with me recently and it's been bouncing around in my head ever since.  SO what do I do about this??

After a little discussion with my mom (business partner) we have decided to
GO RED FOR WOMEN!

Wednesday, February 2nd through Monday, February 14th (Valentine's Day...seemed appropriate since we've dealing with "matters of the heart"!)

We will be donating 10% of our profits on any items with a Heart or with RED on it to the
 American Heart Associations
GO RED FOR WOMEN Campaign.

The shop is brimming with goodies that meet this criteria...

We are constantly adding to the collection...

And since we have the most wonderful artists, many of them have agreed to match our contributions.

Miss Ky's Couture.... fun bauble charms and bracelets...check out her Facebook page.

Jewelry by Jean...whimsical pendants and earrings.

And Barb from Thoughtful Images Ink ... one of a kind handmade cards.

And there will be tons of vintage jewelry, treasures, and one of kind finds to be had!

Ragamuffin Garland

Once the Christmas garland was down at the shop it became very obvious that it would be missed.  With the sun going down early during these wintery days the shop gets dark, so we had to figure out a way to light it up.  I came across this wonderful post from Gina @ The Shabby Chic Cottage.  She shared a how to on making a Ragamuffin Garland using a string of repurposed Christmas lights.

I decided I had to give it a try.  Gina bought beautiful coordinating fabrics to create this gorgeous garland.

Since I'm more of a "use what I have" kind of girl, I went searching around for the fabrics.  I managed to come up with a burlap bag, some scraps of burlap fabric, some leftovers from a chair recovering and a few mismatched cotton napkins that I'd never used.  And since I wasn't sure what I'd end up with I don't have pictures of the supplies.  But I do have some of the finished product!

This project was so easy.  I just cut up my fabrics in strips and started tying knots...

And kept tying knots...and after a very long time and a lot of knots...

My fingers were numb...but the garland was done!

Let there be LIGHT!

For the Love of Grains Sacks!

I have a love of grain sacks, feed sack, and burlap sacks.  It's a horrible weakness that causes my mother (business partner) to roll her eyes and shake her head at me.  I often use the term..."lets just throw some burlap at it".  For me it's the duct tape of this shopkeeper's life!

I have covered chairs, used them for pillow covers, hung them as wall art,  even tacked it down as a floor covering when I was in a pinch to cover a particularly ugly spot in the shop!

So instead of hiding my Addiction to these beauties I've decided to Share it!

And because it's more fun to see what everyone else is doing, I thought I'd share a couple of wonderful ideas I've found while cruising around blogland.

This is one of my favorite blogs.  Donna at Funky Junk Interiors has great ideas and I love linking up to her Saturday Night Blog Party to see what all the talented people have to share.  Her recent link up was all about grain sacks so I was in Heaven!

While clicking away at the links I found Melissa at JunkFest.  She put these lovely coffee sacks to good use.  Love it!

And Jane over at Mamie Jane's turned this fun sugar bag in to a drool worthy foot stool.

I could go on and on but check them out for yourself.  I've found tons of inspiration.

 I hope you do too!

I Love Snow Days!

When the temperatures start dropping I get as excited as a school girl.  If I wasn't afraid I'd scar my kids for life I'd jump on the elementary school bandwagon and sport my jammies inside out and sleep with a spoon under my pillow (not sure what that has to do with bringing on snow but the word is out on the playground.)

Instead I just hold my breath as the school closures scroll across the bottom of the television and when the name of my son's school travels before my eyes my heart jumps a little in pure anticipation.  And why am I such a lover of snow days you may ask...

Sledding!

There is just something about the pure joy that sledding brings.  I love watching my kids play in the snow.

The bravery of a tiny one taking on a big hill...

The giggling even though you can't feel your cheeks...

The little things like watching my son drag his sled up the hill with the rope around his waist (just like I used too).  These are why I love a good snow day.

I'm sure you wondering how this fits into my blog about a girl who opened a vintage shop.  It's one of the reasons I took the leap of faith to be my own boss.  The freedom to take a Snow Day with my kids.  Being a business owner is a lot of hard work but the perks are amazing.

Dreaming in Shades of White

I've been wanting to put this together for a while and I'm so excited that we finally pulled it off!

We were faced with a "well now what moment" shortly after we dismantled the Christmas trees...

What to do...What to do...

Since all I could think about was taking a Nap after the hectic holidays...this is what we came up with...

It started with the curly willow...I love me some sticks.

And then we layered on many, many layers of whites and creams.  Added a splash of burlap...

Grabbed a cuddly blanket and a book...

And now all I need is a good cup of coffee and a box of chocolates!

New Years Finds

Clearing away Christmas and bringing in the New Year.  Although I love the Christmas decor I am not so sad to see it go!  We have been accumulating lots of new finds and I can't wait to get them in the shop.  Since my days have been filled with not so glamorous things I figure I'll just provide some eye candy!

There's lots more to come once I dig through the piles in the garage!

Linking up to Al A Carte to share my finds.  Just love checking out everyone's treasures!
